You work hard for yourself and your loved ones to be prepared in case of what lies ahead, be it Incapacitated or death. While it may not be a comfortable discussion, it is necessary to be prepared just in case. To have a checklist, and follow the list will ensure that you are preprepared for your loved ones.
While you are young and think that your future is a long time in front of you, it takes only one accident or experience to hurt you financially, mentally and physically. More than half of American adults (56%) have absolutely no estate planning documents—such as a will, trust, or power of attorney. A staggering 67% pass away without a valid will, leaving their loved ones in legal limbo and subject to default state intestacy law.
Estate Planning & Wills
Widespread Inaction: Only 24% to 26% of U.S. adults currently have a valid will.
The "Sandwich Gap": More than 58% of Millennials and 62% of Generation X lack any estate plan, flying without a safety net for their children or assets.
The Top Barriers: Americans cite procrastination (32%), not knowing where to start (25%), and believing they don't have enough assets to justify a will (27% to 40%) as their primary reasons for not preparing.
🚨 Emergency Preparedness
Everyday Savings: Approximately 22% of Americans have zero emergency savings, and nearly half wouldn't be able to cover a month of expenses if their income stopped.
Natural Disasters: Despite 90% of Americans valuing disaster preparedness, a third of Americans (32%) have made zero financial or emergency preparations for natural disasters.
Even though roughly 73% of Americans admit that having an estate plan is personally important, the gap between thinking about it and actually signing the documents remains a massive issue.
